Aged 2 years, 7 months. December 19, 1944. Wearing some sort of funny pants. Child is rightly annoyed.

Aged 19 months. December 19, 1943. The day I got my second Christmas tree. But mom took the picture at a hay stack. (Where I loved to play)

Aged 2 years, 7 months, 14 days. January 2, 1945. Third Christmas. Child appears to have made out. A wheelbarrow, wagon. lots of fruit and nuts, coloring books and some kind of thing under the left foot. Note the long hair. Mom did not cut my hair until I was five. That cost me about a dozen therapy sessions.

Aged 2 years, 9 months, 6 days. February 25, 1945. With Christmas wagon. And a snack. At Johnson Place.

Aged 2 years, 10 months, 1 day. March 20, 1945. Young gent in wagon. At that time there was still a lot of machinery setting around that was left over from horse and buggy days.

Aged 2 years, 11 months, 6 days. April 25, 1945. Playing with excellent truck. This may have been at the Tip;ton place east of town. I have no memory of this time and am not sure of its location.

3 years, 3 days ol,d. May 22, 1945. Sun was very bright in the child's eyes. I have no idea how mom kept me that clean..

Aged 3 years, 7 months, 9 days. December 28, 1945. At the Johnson Place. the barn and pens are on the right. Dad is in front of the barn. The cows belong to Roy Spinks. The turkeys also I suppose. The pet lamb with me in Lamby.

Aged 3 years, 7 months, 18 days. January 6, 1946. This is an oil well they were drilling on the other side of the road from the Johnson Place. Don't think they found enough to produce. Menard is the only county in West Texas without significant oil I think.

Aged 3 years, 8 months, 26 days. January 14, 1946, With one or Roy Spinks' cows. Very pregnant cows. Roy's stock were all very tame. Many would let me touch them and pet them> Cow has here ears cocked back. Probably thinks this is funny. 'Those humans are so silly"

3 years, 8 months, 3 days. January 22, 1946. Appears we had a snow storm. This is at the Johnson Place. I think I remember this.

Age 3 years, 9 months. February 19, 1946. Sheep is Lamby. At the Johnson Place looking north from the west side of the barn.

Aged 3 years, 10 months, 1 day. March 20, 1946. Me rolling a barrel. This was one of my favorite toys. I rolled that barrel miles around the house and barns and down to the farm pond and back. And occasionally I would roll it over fresh cow poop. Had to anticipate when that would roll around and avoid it. Also if I rolled the barrel over a cactus after rolling it through the cow poop, the poop would collect the little stickers from the cactus and I would then get the stickers in my hand if not careful. I tried rolling the barrel over pretty much everything to see what would happen. Very educational toy. But you won't find it in Fat Brain toys.

Aged 3 years,11 months, 1 day. April 20, 1946. Sheep is Lamby. I was Lamby's favorite person. Because I feed him. Child again appears to have and attitude. If I remember we sheared Lamby a couple of times before we sold him.

Age 3 years, 11 months, 26 days. May 15, 1946. At the old home place near Star Texas where dad was born. Don't know the name of the dog. Dad is the man on the left, uncle Clyde is the man at the right with the hound.

Aged 4 years. May 19, 1946. With Mr. and Mrs. Steve Dunson. Mrs Dunson was 67 years, 6 months old and Mr Dunson was 75 on May 20. The Dunsons ran a rooming house in Menard and Mom and Dad were both staying there when they met.

Aged 4 years, 1 months, 2 days. June 21, 1946. Again with the chickens. I don't know that city people realize that when living on the farm most of the animals become more or less pets especially if you feed them regularily. So a human touching them or picking them up is something they accept. If you are kind to them which we were. I think most of them enjoy the attention. They certainly get jealous when another is getting more attention.

Aged 4 years, 1 month, 2 days. June 21, 1946. Feeding a hen. Of interest here is the cistern behind me. This was at the Johnson Place and in the 'L' on the backside of the house they had this cistern to catch the rain runoff. It was in the shade most of the time so the water was cool even in summer. And the water left your hair soooo soft when washing in it.

Aged 4 years, 5 months. October 19, 1946. On a pile of cedar posts. Roy Spinks was upgrading the fences at the Johnson Place and got so cedar posts for down around Junction. The fresh cedar really smelled good.
