Founded in 1900 in Rices Landing Pennslyvania, Young and Sons served the light foundry and machining needs of ships plying this section of the Monongahela River. They also served the railroads and nearby coal mines. The building includes a foundries for iron and brass, a machine shop and a forge. The machines were powered via belts from an overhead line shaft. The line shaft was originally driven by steam but now is powered by an old tractor engine. Both the main and upper floors were driven from this single power source.
Young and Sons was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016
The machines, tools and patterns are original. Also many of the belts are original. The site is now under protection.
